What are the moisture requirements for making machine-made charcoal?
Raw materials such as wood blocks, bamboo chips, peanut shells, furfural residue, bagasse, branches, sawdust, and straws etc can finally be made into machine-made charcoal through four steps: crushing, drying, briquetting and carbonization. However, it should be noted that the output of charcoal varies greatly with the moisture content of raw materials.
The role of moisture in briquette machine is quite important. The existence of proper moisture can act as lubricant, reduce the internal friction of the molding system and improve the mechanical strength of briquette. If there is too much water, the water layer on the surface of the particles will become thicker, which will affect the full density of particles, but will reduce the mechanical strength of briquette. In addition, too much moisture will easily cause cracks when the briquette is dried, which will make the briquette easily break. A proper amount of water will wet the surface of particles in advance, which is beneficial to the mutual adhesion between particles. If there is too much water, it will make the effect of the binder worse. In a word, the moisture content of materials should be flexibly controlled according to the actual situation, and it should be controlled within an optimal range.
We should ensure that the water content of raw materials is between 5% and 12%. If that moisture content is less than 5%, the conversion and viscosity of raw material are poor, and it is hard to form briquettes. If the moisture content is greater than 12%, the briquette is soft and easy to bend, and the density is low. The moisture content of raw materials is usually roughly identified by hand feeling, but it is difficult to observe with naked eyes. First, we touch the working separator shell with our hands, and its temperature makes our hands feel hot; Secondly, look at the color of the material that just came out, and ask for yellowing; After that, grab a handful of fresh materials with your hand, rub them into a ball with your palm, and then release them fiercely, requiring all the raw materials to be scattered. If the moisture content of raw materials is not up to standard, it is necessary to configure appropriate drying equipment, and the materials with appropriate moisture content will have higher output and better flammability when producing charcoal.
